In Dialogue with Cavafy: 150 Years Honoring the Poet from Alexandria

Student readers, with Maria Zervos and Prof. Vassiliki Rapti.

On Monday, May 6th, the Hellenic Society co-sponsored a night of poetry honoring Constantine Cavafy for the 150th anniversary of his birth. Poets David Ferry and George Kalogeris presented some of their original pieces, and read their favorites by Cavafy. Maria Zervos presented a screening of her original film "Bon Voyage" and read her original poetry, as well. All students of Modern Greek at Harvard read poems by Cavafy in Greek and English. Vassiliki Rapti moderated the evening and led a discussion and Q&A between the scholars. This event was made possible by the Program of Modern Greek Studies, the Department of the Classics at Harvard, the Harvard College Hellenic Society, and the Harvard Greek Film Society.
